The meaning of today (Good Friday) is to remember that Jesus died for us on the cross. He died that we might live.
John 3:16 "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
Luke 23:34 And Jesus said, "Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do."
Through the death of Jesus we gained forgiveness for our sins if only we asked to be forgiven.
Everything is being supplanted by consumerism every day of the year we are assaulted by adverts telling us that we will only be happy if we buy their product. And the hole inside your heart grows the more you buy to try to fill it. Only God can truly fill the hole.
But Christmas and Easter have been particularly badly hit by consumerism. The gift of life has been changed to be the gift of a lot of money to the companies the whole meaning is being changed.
